May 1 - Tech Lab appointments available.  At these one-hour sessions, you can work on a variety of devices with our tech volunteers and specialists on a one to one basis.  Just let us know when you make your appointment what you are interested in exploring and we will do our best to help you. $20 for a one-hour individualized training session.  Contact Stacie Grijalva or call the office 831-458-9766.

May 6 - Tools for Success Workshops continue.  10 to to 12:30 p.m.  This week's topics will include Activities of Daily Living (ADL).  We will discuss different ways to accomplish many of the everyday tasks that become difficult with vision loss. We will also include an introduction to Braille, an overview of the Talking Book Library, and an introduction to CCTVs and magnifiers.  We will also have a peer discussion. For more information about the Tools for Success program, contact Ana Bedingfeld or call 831-458-9766.

May 6 - Game Day!  1 to 3 p.m. Join your Vista Center community for a fun afternoon as we explore playing cards using Braille and also learn how to play Backgammon and Yahtzee. Make sure to check out Bevie's shopping article about Talking Cards below! Game Day is led by Bevie Crook and Patrice Maginnis.   

May 7 -  Spanish Support Group led by Ana Bedingfeld, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

May 10 - 16th Annual Community Health Fair presented by the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust.  4 to 7 p.m. at La Plaza in Downtown Watsonville.  Vista Center will have a table at the fair, stop by to say hello!

May 13 - Tools for Success Workshops continue.  10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  This week's topics will be about Assistive Technology, and you can use technology via their smartphones/iPads/computers to enhance daily living activities. We will talk about how adaptive technology can be the key to success in employment and living skills, as well as introduce screen readers for computers and mobile devices and talk about different reading devices and services.  We will also have a peer discussion. For more information about the Tools for Success program, contact Ana Bedingfeld or call 831-458-9766.

May 13 - "Get an Earful" Book Club.  1:30 to 3:00 p.m.  We will be discussing The Girl Who Wrote in Silk by Kelli Estes. Want to join us in June?  We will be reading Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. All readers are welcome!

May 14 - Peer Support Group led by Beverly Crook, 12 to 1:30 p.m.

May 16 - Tech Users Group featuring Google's Accessibility Team.  Henri Fortuna, Technical Program Manager for Accessibility, will discuss Google Lookout, the new Google app that helps people with visual impairments identify information about their surroundings.  12 to 2 p.m. at Louden Nelson Center, 301 Center Street, Santa Cruz.  RSVP is not necessary for the tech users group, but we always like to know if you are coming! May 18 - Senior Health Resource Fair at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art History. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about resources available for seniors in our community and to visit the "We're Still Here" exhibit. Vista Center will be there, stop by to say hi!

May 21 - English Support Group led by Ana Bedingfeld, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

May 27 - Vista Center closed in observance of Memorial Day.
